As you may know, my home town of Minneapolis will host the 2018 Superbowl—in the winter. It’s often -20 degrees then. Anyway, back to writers. Here I am blogging and hoping that at some …

Seriously, what’s the difference between the two? A writer and an NFL owner? We’re both trying to promote our products. Me=books. NFL onwers=ticket sales.

As you may know, my home town of Minneapolis will host the 2018 Superbowl—in the winter. It’s often -20 degrees then. Anyway, back to writers. Here I am blogging and hoping that at some point when I have enough followers, I can get one, maybe two sponsors for the blog. A recent article in the Star Tribune http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/262253921.html exposed the financial and special treatment the NFL owners forced the Twin Cities community to cough-up to get a Superbowl.

So far, I don’t have any sponsors, but the NFL owners’ net worth is such they will still get the following items when they come to frigid Minnesota:

1. Presidential suites in high-end hotels

2. All ATMs in the stadium can only be used by people with NFL credit cards—fees going to the owners

3. Free rounds of golf at the best courses in the summer prior to the Superbowl

4. 180 people will get free transportation and lodging for a “get acquainted” trip to the area prior to the event.

Let’s see. I also do events myself. At libraries and book stores. I hope that people will come and say hello and buy some books. At my last event at Barnes & Noble, thanks to the great people at the store, I sold 25 books!! Of course, I had to pay my own transportation to the store and buy my own bottle of water for the event.

In spite of the NFL owners wealth, they will also get:

1. 20 free billboards across the area to promote their event

2. At least 20 free color pages in the local media to promote their event

3. Four weeks of free promotion on local radio stations

4. Free police escorts around town and preferential treatment at the airport when their private jets arrive.

Oh, I forgot to mention they will also get free use of two top quality bowling venues for the team owners and families.

Maybe I should demand they attend my events—after all, they’re free, too!

Where did I miss the boat? Instead of being a writer, I should have become an NFL owner. Isn’t is amazing how they can hold-up an entire metropolitan area for even more money? (The Vikings are getting a new stadium—thanks in great part to public financing) I should mention that these free trinkets the owners will get when they’re here are funded by private donations, but couldn’t they throw a little my way? Like I said, I’d even offer to sell them some books . . .
