beautiful places to read a bookIf you’re like me, you could read anywhere.  I love to read and when I’m especially engrossed in a book, I don’t even know what’s going on around me.  So, why should we go to beautiful places to read a book?

Not only will you be surrounded by books and books and books, but the atmosphere is conducive to reading.  Some of these place look as if the  the words were carried in the air itself!  http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1IZCZx/:28FIRGV1:ApMBfDWB/www.educationbash.com/top-10-most-beautiful-places-to-read-books

There’s a reason why libraries were developed by human beings.  Of course, they are a place to collect and store books, but they also are an inviting space to read.  Even if you’re using a laptop or your smart phone, these kinds of reading spaces inspire each of us to, well, read!

From this list I’ve only been to two of them: the House on the Rock in Wisconsin (the house itself is worth visiting) and Shakespeare and Co. in Paris.  I believe the original store was moved to this present location, but the owners tried to keep the same sense of the old space.  I also have two nominations of my own most beautiful places to read a book for the list:

  1.  Atlantis Books in Oia, Santorini in Greece.  Owned and run by two Americans, it’s a steep climb down a flight of steps from the street level.  Inside, it’s cool and full of tiny cubby holes and rooms that lead you along to even more rooms. http://atlantisbooks.org/
  2. E. Shavers Books in Savannah, Georgia.  Which I’m glad is still open.  I haven’t been there for over twenty years.  http://www.eshaverbooks.com/
  3. Finally, I’m partial to Subtext Books in St. Paul, MN.  Mostly because it’s run by such nice people who support so many local authors

Do you have any beautiful places to read books?  Please share them (and photos) if you have them!
